Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz appointed Partner Alan Bedenko to the Board of Trustees of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, with unanimous confirmation by the Erie County Legislature.

Partner Matthew S. Feldman has been named to Super Lawyers Magazine‘s 2015 Upstate New York Rising Stars list. Feldman Kieffer LLP Partners James E. Eagan and Gordie D. Tresch were also named as Super Lawyers for 2015.

Partner Matthew S. Feldman presented on Risk Management on November 15, 2014 at the Leading the Way Weekend Seminar at the Allegria Hotel in Long Beach, NY, discussing regulatory issues related to attesting to Meaningful Use for Electronic Health Records software, ways to minimize the potential for adverse outcomes, potential audits, and appropriate responses to audits.

Partner Stephen Manuele was recently appointed as a Vice Chair of the DRI Medical Health Care and Liability Law On Line Community.

In an asbestos defense case being handled by Mark Nemeth, the plaintiff in his deposition identified our client’s product (a pump) as being one of the sources of his asbestos exposure. We served a Motion for Summary Judgment. After the plaintiff’s counsel reviewed the motion,  they agreed to discontinue the action against our client.  We argued that the plaintiff misidentified our pump, and that under NY law we cannot be held liable for gaskets that we neither made or supplied. Jonathan Dominik assisted on the motion bringing about the successful result.

Firm partner Adam Ferrandino is scheduled to present at an NBI-sponsored CLE on Litigating Insurance Coverage Claims on May 8th in Buffalo, NY.

Mark Nemeth gave a presentation in Niagara County as part of a conference entitled A Collaborative Response to Elder Abuse presented in conjunction with the Niagara County Bar Association. He spoke on the topic of “Nursing Homes: Rights and Litigation”. He discussed the statutes relevant to the rights of nursing home residents and the obligations of nursing homes to them as well as the legal remedies for violation of these rights and failure to meet their obligations.

Stephen A. Manuele recently wrote an article on Employment Law for the New York State Dental Association Journal.
